Pia Douwes
Pia Douwes, born in Amsterdam is the most well-known leading lady of the European musical theatre world. For her work during the past 40 years she received a LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD in both Germany and the Netherlands.
She studied dance in London, attended Musical courses in Austria and took singing lessons with Noëlle Turner, Carol Mayo and Rein Kolpa.
Pia created the title role of ELISABETH (Austrian World premiere, original Dutch and German productions, Open-Air Concerts and the recent Dutch touring production). She also created the roles of Milady de Winter/3 MUSKETEERS (Dutch and German World premiere), Claire Zachanassian/DER BESUCH DER ALTEN DAME (Swiss and Austrian World premiere) and Helena/EIN WENIG FARBE (Austrian World premiere). In 2004 and 2009 she starred on BROADWAY and in the LONDON WEST END as Velma Kelly/CHICAGO. In 2026 she produced her own solo tour, celebrating her 40th stage anniversary.

She recorded her solo album AFTER ALL THIS TIME and a DVD of EIN WENIG FARBE. She collaborated on the photobook AUGENBLICKE AUS DEM BAROCK as model and text author.
Pia is an ambassador for several charities, including Make-A-Wish Netherlands, Ingeborg Douwes Stichting, and Music Care.
She was knighted with the royal honour of the Order of the Dutch Lion and has received Lifetime Achievement Awards in both the Netherlands and Germany.
For over 25 years, Pia has been passionately coaching young students in schools all over the world.
